FirstGem - Celebrating Two Years of Empowering Women
The FirstGem 2nd anniversary event held on 23 November 2018 at the Harbour Point, Victoria Island, Lagos. The annual conference is the go to event for women who aspire to live their best lives whether in career, business or personal life. Women from across Nigeria and global guests attended the conference to not only inspire others but to support and connect with one another in an enabling environment. FirstGem women left invigorated and energized in their quest to build their desired lifestyle.
Women came together with one common goal – how to get ahead in building financial independence – the very pillar which FirstGem symbolizes. FirstGem is a lifestyle product created by FirstBank to meet the economic needs and aspirations of women. In attendance were our Keynote speakers Arunma Oteh, Treasurer and Vice President of the World Bank and Dr. Doyin Salami, CEO Kainos Edge Consulting Limited who spoke respectively on “Building Sustainable Wealth “and “Identifying New Frontiers for Business in 2019” thus sharing with the audience the opportunities abound in the Nigerian economy and how women can maximize them.
A power packed plenary session addressed ‘The Daily Habits of Creating Wealth’, moderated by Abiola Adekoya, CEO RMB Stockbrokers, Nigeria Limited. Arunma Oteh, Treasurer and Vice President of the World Bank; Cecilia Akintomide Non-Executive Director FBN Holdings; Nimi Akinkugbe, CEO Bestman Games, author A-Z of Personal Finance and Arese Ugwu, author The Smart Money Woman discussed and provided practical tips on the daily habits which women need to imbibe if they are to make gradual steps towards wealth creation.
A session on “What Investors Want” was delivered by FunmI Oyetunji, CEO, AbiTos Financial Services Ltd, taking business owners through the technical requirements of raising business finance. Yetunde Ashiru of the girl tribe ÒJÁ focused on a hugely popular topic “Benefits of a Sisterhood”, the need for women to have a support system where you’re your sister’s keeper, importance is placed on the collective (we) and not individual (I), group accountability for all members is emphasized as a key success factor.
Tomie Balogun, author, Investment Clubs and a Millennial Investment Expert, delivered a FirstGem testimonial and shared the story of how she and a group of 40 young women set up an investment club after attending the very FirstGem launch event in 2016. She discussed on the benefits of women pooling their financial resources to undertake large investment ventures.
The event came to a resounding finish from the inspirational Chairman of FirstBank, Ibukun Awosika who rounded up the day’s discussions on “The Mindset of Wealth reinforcing the need for women to deliberately and consciously be disciplined in their approach to savings, investing and wealth acquisition if they are to truly enjoy achieve their desired financial and personal lifestyle.
